1 cup of powdered cinnamon (or mostly cinnamon with some
ginger, allspice, and/or cloves blended in)
1 cup unsweetened applesauce (at room temperature)
Mix the spice/s thoroughly with the applesauce until it
starts to feel doughy. Sprinkle waxed paper with more
cinnamon and put the mixture onto it - roll it out to
1/4" thick with a rolling pin (use cinnamon to
"flour" it if necessary). Dip cookie cutters into
cinnamon and cut out desired ornament shapes (or carve them
with a knife). Make a hole at a strategic hanging point for
each shape (not too close to the edge) - use a straw dipped
into cinnamon. Carefully transfer all with a dry spatula to
baking sheets lined with more waxed paper and air-dry them
for 3-4 days or so, until they’re completely dry. Gently
turn them several times a day. Thread ribbons into the holes
to hang. Store the ornaments in airtight containers in a
                    cool, dry place.
