Interested in the mosaic craft technique but want to
start simply? Here’s a wonderful way to "rescue"
a jigsaw puzzle that isn’t giving pleasure in its present
form… put it on a box instead of in one!
Start with a nicely-finished box suitable for use as a
gift... Cigar boxes work well if you want a lid, because the
layer of puzzle makes trimming lap-over lids difficult.
Wooden tissue box covers are pretty good candidates. You’ll
need to put the jigsaw puzzle together one last time! (This
is a good way to use puzzles with missing pieces, as long as
there are swaths of whole puzzle that will fit the surfaces
to want to cover.) Cut put-together slabs of puzzle
carefully to fit the faces of a box. Apply glue to one face
at a time, press its slab into place, and allow it to dry.
When all the surfaces are covered, you can paint and seal
the whole. ...Or did you want the design to show? - then
                    just clear-seal the result!
